Here is our status at the end of the spring quarter 2026.

  • Tanek Swain and I are still (slowly) polishing the draft paper on the CS education study that analyzes differences in student records between native and transfer students.

  • This quarter otherwise didn’t see a lot of research work as I’ve embarked on a year-long effort to modernize our introductory programming course series (ECS 36C). I’m scheduled to teach all three courses next year and am currently focused on developing the new course materials. We are switching the series entirely to modern C++ and introducing 3-hour labs to provide students with more structured learning activities. These labs will allow us to introduce important topics earlier, such as secure programming and AI literacy.
